T-Square Design Associates

岐阜市内にある木造2階建て住宅の1階部分という小規模リフォームである。クライアントからの依頼は、基本的な既存間取りを変更せずに、仕上げとディテールに特化した改修により、空間を劇的に変えてほしいという内容であった。通常の設計プロセスでは、大きな「全体」から小さな「部分」へと焦点をシフトしていきながら建物を昇華させていく。その中での素材の選定やディテールは、あくまで「全体」を支えるための手段の一つである。しかし、ここでは「全体」（今回のケースでは外観や間取り）が決まっており、いきなり「部分」からのスタートであったため、「軸」をどこに置くかという事がポイントとなった。そこで、素材とディテールのバランスを軸に進めた結果、緊張感と優しさが共存する新しい空間が生まれたのではないかと感じている。

This was a small-scale renovation of the first floor of a two-story wooden house in Gifu City. The client's request was to dramatically change the space by renovating it with a focus on finishing and details, without changing the basic existing floor plan. In a normal design process, the focus is shifted from the large "whole" to the small "parts" to elevate the building. The selection of materials and details in this process are merely one of the means to support the "whole". However, in this case, the "whole" (in this case, the exterior and floor plan) had already been decided, and we started from the "parts", so the key point was where to place the "axis". Therefore, by proceeding with the balance between materials and details as the axis, a new space where tension and gentleness coexist was born.
