RESIDENCE axis

This is a house for a family of five from Taiwan, located in the city of Kobe. The shape of the site spreads out in a fan shape from the road and 1/3 of it has a slope. Moreover, because the site is located on a hillside with a wonderful view of Osaka city, all existing houses around face the same direction as if they are on a same axis. This existing situation seemed very awkward. So we decided to find a different axis that symbolizes the site and came up with two axis and the plan was made along these axes. The first axis is on a line that connects Taiwan and Japan (diagonal axis) and the other is an axis (vertical axis) that connects Taiwan and China. The volume on a diagonal axis, where the client's living base is located, is made of concrete representing the strong bonding of Japan and Taiwan and the other volume on vertical axis is made of steel, all of it to express the strength and weakness of the relationship between Japan, Taiwan and China. As a result, a new axis on sight called view axis was born on site. It points in the direction of the United States and the Pacific Ocean, where the husband has lived for a long time, and is the axis that shows prosperous development of this family in the future.
